METRO DETROIT — The end of the high school football season is near as Week 8 will be the second-to-last game of the season for most teams. This is a popular week for schools to go out of their divisions one last time before the season ends, and it also provides a handful of rivalry games.

MADISON HEIGHTS — Madison Heights Bishop Foley junior Sasha Walker took her talents to the national stage this summer and played for the Detroit Tigers NIKE RBI team.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — L’Anse Creuse North 2016 graduate Taylor Girard saw her high school jersey hung in the school gym on Thursday, Sept. 18 during a sixth-hour assembly.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS — Longtime Brother Rice football coach and teacher Al Fracassa passed away on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 92 years old.

METRO DETROIT — The high school football season has already passed its halfway point in 2025 and conference games are becoming more and more important every week.

WARREN/BLOOMFIELD HILLS — Warren Regina defeated Bloomfield Hills Marian in the two schools’ annual powder-puff game by a score of 14-0 on Sunday, Sept. 14.

STERLING HEIGHTS/GROSSE POINTE — Grosse Pointe Farms-City Little League softball player Reagan Lohr made the Little League World Series Home Run Derby championship in Williamsport on Aug. 21.

HOWELL — Cleary University is expanding its athletics program to include women’s wrestling and co-ed competitive dance in the 2026-2027 school year, the school announced.

SOUTHFIELD — Delsea Hall is a 10-year-old student-athlete at Southfield Christian School and is in the running for Colossal’s Youth Athlete of the Year.

UTICA — The 2025 United Shore Professional Baseball League season came to an end in dramatic fashion with the Eastside Diamond Hoppers winning the team’s first league title.

DETROIT — The future home of Detroit City FC, which is scheduled to be ready for the start of the 2027 United Soccer League Championship season, has officially been named AlumniFi Field.

METRO DETROIT — The six high school girls field hockey matches Aug. 19 were the first field hockey games in Michigan played as a Michigan High School Athletic Association-sponsored sport.
