SHELBY TOWNSHIP — It’s a special moment for two sisters to achieve something special together, especially when they’re twins making school history on one of the biggest stages in girls wrestling.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — If you would have polled various bowling coaches throughout Macomb, Wayne and Oakland Counties prior to this season and asked them, “Who’s the top bowler in the class of 2025,” it wouldn’t have been a surprise if Utica Eisenhower junior Dylan Harnden was mentioned multiple times.

FARMINGTON — The Farmington swim and dive program has been around for 54 years, and for 54 years the swim and dive team has longed for a state finals trophy.

FARMINGTON HILLS — It was a surreal feeling for Farmington United junior Leah Hodge as she was crowned the Division 1 all-around Individual State Champion.

FARMINGTON — Someone had to be a trailblazer for the girls side at North Farmington, and junior Lorelei Shrum has assumed that role to perfection.

ST. CLAIR SHORES — Don’t let the smell of perfume or the bright smiles fool you when you step into the gymnasium.

WARREN — Warren Mott gained substantial traction on the boys side for an incredible season, but the girls showed that they’re right on par with their abilities.

WEST BLOOMFIELD — The Lakers were one of many girls wrestling teams to witness a historic season as freshman Eva Zimnicki, junior Tamari Khizanishvili and junior team captain Alexa Hampton all punched their state finals ticket this season, becoming the most female state finals qualifiers in West Bloomfield history.

MADISON HEIGHTS — Sophomore Karina Witmer and freshman Allie Matheney, who are the only two girls on the roster, became the first female wrestlers in school history to qualify for the state finals on March 2 at Ford Field as Witmer was a regional champion and Matheney took fourth.

METRO DETROIT — The state semifinals of the 2024 MHSAA Boys Basketball Tournament is slated to begin March 14.

NOVI — They left as state champions and are already making their mark on the college stage.

GROSSE POINTE WOODS — Grosse Pointe University Liggett and Grosse Pointe North High School were well represented during the opening week of college baseball. Liggett graduates Jarren Purify and Oliver Service, both state champions in 2021 for the Knights, made their Division I debuts.

GROSSE POINTE FARMS — Last year was a history-making season for Grosse Pointe South junior Wyatt Hepner as he competed in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 wrestling state championship in the 126-pound weight class, but it wasn’t good enough for him.

GROSSE POINTE WOODS — There’s a different type of connection when a high school coach has walked the same school hallways as a student.

BIRMINGHAM — There’s a reason the Birmingham ski team is consistently a part of the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 State Finals each year.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS — Everyone wants to be a part of a successful team. The environment is electric, the team atmosphere is exciting, and everyone has their sights set on the same thing – winning.

MACOMB TOWNSHIP — Macomb L’Anse Creuse High School-North boys swimming has been on a tour of the Macomb Area Conference the past three years.

WARREN — It’s been a story of progression this season for Warren Woods Tower boys wrestling, but the journey is far from over.

STERLING HEIGHTS — Earning a league championship can create a sense of pride for a team, especially in Henry Ford II boys swim and dive’s case, where last year’s Macomb Area Conference White title was the school’s first since 1996.
