BIRMINGHAM — The city of Birmingham has welcomed a new luxury apartment complex downtown.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS — Bowers Academy in Bloomfield Hills, the district’s alternative educational program, will look different next year.

BIRMINGHAM — Thanks to the funds from a $11.25 million parks and recreation bond over 70% of voters approved in 2020, the city of Birmingham has been able to focus on improving some of the community’s playgrounds. The city is currently in the process of developing plans for the playgrounds at Pumphouse Park and West Lincoln Well Park.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — The Shelby Township Police Department will be hosting its annual Citizens Police Academy and will be inviting residents to apply later this summer.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — The UCS Foundation for Educational Excellence has announced the academic achievements of 37 graduating seniors who have received scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 to continue their educations.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Utica High School is the DECA international winner for the first time in school history, and the Henry Ford II school store has placed in top 20.

UTICA — Downtown Utica is about to hit another home run after being backed by nearly $1 million from a revitalization and placemaking grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to develop a former landfill area into the new headquarters of the United Shore Professional Baseball League, which will include a restaurant, retail space and nonprofit offices.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — A 31-year-old man who had been charged with safe breaking reportedly cut off a GPS tether last month and is now evading police.

WARREN — A man charged with killing his roommate in 2023 pleaded no contest to the charges against him in Macomb County Circuit Court on May 19.

WARREN — Leaders of the Harvest Time Christian Fellowship feel the church and its food pantry are being unfairly targeted by the city of Warren, while city inspectors contend they are just enforcing the blight ordinance.

ST. CLAIR SHORES — The St. Clair Shores City Council listened to a budget hearing on April 28. This is the layout of the budget for fiscal year 2025-2026 they will be asked to consider and approve with or without changes in the weeks to come.

EASTPOINTE/HARPER WOODS/DETROIT — With the recent wave of crime that has hit Eastpointe — including a shooting that left two people dead and a stabbing in which one person was killed — a group of pastors recently gathered with about 125 residents to lift the community in prayer and denounce violence.

EASTPOINTE — A Detroit man has succumbed to knife wounds following an altercation at an Eastpointe home.

ROSEVILLE — A Roseville man pleaded no contest May 20 in Macomb County Circuit Court to killing his housemate in a fight last year.
