FERNDALE — After operating for two years, a drinking staple of Ferndale will be closing its doors. Axle Brewing Co. announced on its Facebook page that it will be shutting down the Livernois Tap restaurant, 567 Livernois Ave., at the end of the month, with its final day scheduled for June 30.

HUNTINGTON WOODS — A fundraiser held at Rackham Golf Course raised thousands of dollars to improve the grounds of the course. A pair of Huntington Woods residents organized the fundraiser, which brought in $7,000 to improve the course. The event, called the Short Game Skills Challenge, was a 36-hole, par-3 tournament and was held May 18.

FERNDALE — Ferndale’s one-day music festival located on the porches of homes in the city will return later this month. The Front Porch will take place over the course of Saturday, June 22, at dozens of homes across Ferndale. In total, 56 artists and bands will perform on 32 porches, according to organizers.

BERKLEY — Coolidge Highway recently underwent a major makeover in which the lane markers between 11 Mile and 12 Mile roads were restriped. The roadway now has one lane each for northbound and southbound traffic, with a permanent middle lane for left turns. There also is a bike lane and increased space for parking on the street.

FERNDALE — Police officers from five cities helped arrest a man who allegedly committed armed robbery at a local 7-Eleven at approximately 2:20 a.m. May 21. Police arrested 24-year-old John Briggs, of Ferndale, after he allegedly pulled a gun on a cashier at 7-Eleven, 1040 W. Nine Mile Road, and stole more than $150 and Juul pods for e-cigarettes.

FERNDALE/BERKLEY — Earlier this month, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed a House bill that gives relief to school districts that had to cancel school because of weather-related issues. Whitmer signed House Bill 4206 May 10, which forgave four snow days that forced school cancellations across Michigan after a state of emergency was declared for extremely cold temperatures.
