TROY — At its April 27 meeting, the Troy City Council unanimously approved a purchasing resolution for enhancements at the southwest corner of Big Beaver and Livernois roads, as well as providing a mid-block pedestrian crossing on Big Beaver Road east of Livernois Road at Talbot Street. 

TROY — The Troy City Council decided April 6 to delay zoning ordinance changes so it could better assess the impact on neighborhoods. The conversation is now expected to continue at its meeting May 11.

TROY— State Rep. Sharon MacDonell honored Troy Youth Assistance as an outstanding nonprofit in the 56th district she represents, declaring it her Nonprofit of the Month April 24.

METRO DETROIT — Yong Ni, the 52-year-old owner and operator of two Kyoto Japanese Steakhouse restaurants, was indicted in late April on charges of conspiracy, harboring illegal aliens for commercial advantage and private financial gain, and fraud and misuse of immigration documents, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan.

UTICA — Many community members and their dogs came out on April 25 to participate in the 2026 Utica Puppy Parade in support of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month.

UTICA/STERLING HEIGHTS/SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Michael Oommen, a senior at the Gene L. Klida Utica Academy for International Studies, is among 700 students nationally and 17 statewide to earn a scholarship in the first round of the National Merit Scholarship program.

UTICA — Utica Community Schools community partners gave 39 graduating seniors scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 to continue their educations at trade schools, community colleges or universities, for a total of more than $40,000 in scholarships.
