MADISON HEIGHTS — Following an extensive public feedback process last year, officials at Oakland County Parks have unveiled the renovations planned for Red Oaks Park — the space once known as Ambassador Park, leased from the city of Madison Heights.

WEST BLOOMFIELD/FARMINGTON HILLS — Amid community support for Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum, the West Bloomfield Zoning Board of Appeals voted unanimously to grant two variances for the long-time Oakland County establishment to operate in West Bloomfield Township at a meeting Jan. 21.

METRO DETROIT — Drastic changes to Michigan’s paid sick leave and minimum wage will go into effect Feb. 21. Both of Michigan’s major political parties are currently trying to rein in these efforts in the Legislature.

Police vehicles with lights on kept the streets blocked while officers walked through the crowd, offering condolences and support. People struggled to keep candles lit in the cold weather.

FARMINGTON/LIVONIA — After being diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2021, Livonia resident Chuck Schotten said that he and his wife, Susan, “went through a ridiculously hard time in our lives.”

NOVI — Although the weather outside is well below zero, the Novi Community School District is on “fire” when it comes to music video announcements. In what is apparently becoming a tradition, the school district announced the cancellation of school Jan. 21 and Jan. 22 with the release of “It’s Still Snowing,”a previously unseen music video.

BERKLEY — A vehicle pursuit in Berkley ended with an SUV crashing into a home.

CLAWSON — In a unanimous vote by the City Council Jan. 7, the planned unit development to build the Clawson Flats will move forward.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — A Clinton Township man was arraigned Jan. 14 for a litany of charges stemming from an incident where he allegedly held his child and the child’s mother at gunpoint.

BIRMINGHAM — The city of Birmingham, Birmingham Next and the YMCA recently issued a survey seeking community input on what residents want to see in the new building that will sit on 400 E. Lincoln, the current YMCA property.

BERKLEY — Disaster was averted as the Berkley Public Safety Department prevented a house from catching on fire and saved the lives of three chickens.

OAKLAND COUNTY — On March 1, the third and final phase of the “Restore the Reuther” project will commence, as eastbound and westbound Interstate 696 between Lahser Road and Interstate 75 will be rebuilt in 2025-2026.
