ROCHESTER — A new universal play area has opened in Rochester. Memorial Grove All Abilities Park — adjacent to Halbach Field, off of Woodward Avenue — features new interactive play equipment around the existing walkways in Memorial Grove, with a turf floor around the equipment.

WARREN — The Warren Police Department called a press conference Oct. 30 to address a $60 million lawsuit brought by Brittiny Turner, who was injured in a car crash that allegedly resulted from a high-speed police chase.

ST. CLAIR SHORES — Four agenda items pertaining to the projects at the St. Clair Shores Police Department’s station and the St. Clair Shores Central Fire Station were approved in a 5-2 vote at the City Council meeting on Oct. 21.

GREATER WEST BLOOMFIELD — Residents in the Beacon’s coverage area cast their votes for local candidates running for elected positions in the general election on Nov. 5.

HAZEL PARK/MADISON HEIGHTS — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has signed into law a new bill that will expand eligibility for the disabled veteran registration plate. Now, service members with 50% disability or higher are eligible. Before, it was limited only to those with 100% disability.

MOUNT CLEMENS — Two years ago, Mount Clemens Mayor Laura Kropp ended her State of the City address with a wary eye toward major projects within the county seat. In 2023 she announced that more than $39 million in grants and appropriations were allocated for the city.

GROSSE POINTES/HARPER WOODS — Besides federal, state and county elections, voters were also asked to weigh in on multiple local proposals, including a special millage for senior services, a road millage renewal request in Grosse Pointe Farms and two budget-related charter amendments in Grosse Pointe Park.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Voters approved a $188.7 million bond for L’Anse Creuse Public Schools, granting it with 22,082 “yes” votes (59.45%) to 15,063 “no” (40.55%) votes.

ROSEVILLE — Roseville voters approved a change to the city charter to do away with term limits for the Board of Review.

FERNDALE — Ferndale’s proposal to restore its Headlee operating millage has been denied by voters.

WARREN — Republicans rolled across most of Macomb County and the state of Michigan on Nov. 5, but incumbents and newcomers brought a blue wave of Democratic wins in many of the races in the Warren Weekly’s coverage area.

ST. CLAIR SHORES — The South Lake Schools operating millage proposal was passed by voters on Nov. 5.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — The November election brought a sea change in Clinton Township politics, from the supervisor’s post to trustee positions.
