A Pontiac man has been charged after reportedly making threats against a well-known ice skating and hockey club in Bloomfield Township.

Benjamin Jeffrey Denning, 38, was arraigned April 26 in 48th District Court on one charge of misuse of telecommunications services, a misdemeanor. Denning was denied bond for his threats against the Detroit Skate Club.

Bloomfield Township police were called April 18 about a threatening voicemail message left at the Detroit Skating Club, on Denison Court in Bloomfield Township.

The caller, who left a voicemail identifying himself as Benjamin Jeffrey Denning, reportedly threatened to shoot people with an AR-15, including any police who responded.

On April 25, the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Denning in connection with the latest incident, and officers arrested him later that day.

Denning already had a warrant out for his arrest from the 48th District Court for malicious use of telecommunications services regarding “inappropriate communications with court personnel” in October 2020. He was issued a $300,000 cash bond in connection with the previous warrant.

Denning did not have an attorney on file at press time.
