MOUNT CLEMENS — City commissioners took a step toward keeping downtown Mount Clemens clean at their Sept. 18 meeting by setting a date for a downtown maintenance program public hearing.

On Monday, Oct. 16, residents, business owners and other stakeholders can weigh in on the maintenance program, which has been operating since 1981. Businesses and property owners in the district can expect to receive notice from the city.

“Everybody has to be notified in the district about the hearing, so they’ll get the letter before the first hearing,” said Mayor Laura Kropp.

Rates for the district will be announced at the meeting.

IT agreement
Mount Clemens will maintain its business with information technology company Hi-Tech for another year for $85,260. The city is upgrading to the company’s premium plan after spending the past decade supplementing the company’s basic plan with additional time block purchases.

“We’ve made a lot of changes,” Mount Clemens City Manager Gregg Shipman said. “One was the technician that we deal with that would come out once a week on Wednesdays, so we changed the technician approximately 6-8 months ago. Then we made some internal changes where we have a ticketing process now, where every problem now has a ticket associated with it so we can track it. We’re also tracking (Hi-Tech’s) hours that way.”

The new agreement will not require the city to track Hi-Tech’s hours, but the ticketing system will remain in place along with the other changes. The prior system of purchasing additional time blocks cost the city $80,000-$110,000 per year.
