STERLING HEIGHTS — The Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce wants you to come to Dodge Park hungry Sept. 9.

That’s because the chamber and local eateries are planning to throw a Dodge Park Food Truck Rally. As its name suggests, the event will be at Dodge Park, located near the intersection of Dodge Park Road and Utica Road.

According to Stacy Ziarko, the president and CEO of the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce, the chamber moved the event from Freedom Hill to Dodge Park last year. She called the transition “kind of a pandemic move.”

“We needed a new location, and Dodge Park has stepped up,” she said. “The Parks Department offered us the use of the space, and it was phenomenal.”

Ziarko explained that the chamber holds the event because it wants to be a good community partner.

“By bringing a community event to the residents, we are able to showcase some of our members and have restaurants and food trucks,” she said.

Ziarko said around 19 food trucks are invited to the park this year, and they’ll offer everything from Mediterranean and Greek food to barbecue, tacos and baked goods.

“Of course, you need desserts,” she added. “Any good meal has to end with dessert.”

Ziarko said the event will have an area where adults may purchase alcoholic beverages such as craft beer. In addition, she said, the food truck rally will have a State Farm family fun zone that will feature activities for kids, teens and all ages, such as inflatables, caricature artists and face painting.

Nothing Bundt Cakes in Sterling Heights will be one of the local businesses that plans to have a food truck at the event.

In an email, the cake shop’s marketing manager, Chelsie Lyon, said the business plans to serve up personal-sized “Bundtlets” with butter cream cheese frosting. The cakes will come in flavors like red velvet, lemon, chocolate-chocolate chip and white chocolate raspberry, she said.

“Families and singles alike are looking for new things to do locally,” Lyon said. “Bringing together unique small businesses offering different types of food for any (palate) level is the perfect way to do so.”

The Dodge Park Food Truck Rally will take place 4-9 p.m. Sept. 9 at Dodge Park, 40620 Utica Road in Sterling Heights.
