DETROIT — The Detroit Institute of Arts is inviting senior groups to the museum for the popular Melodies at the Museum program.

The music program is designed to provide a unique museum experience for seniors from Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. The DIA will be hosting two more Melodies at the Museum programs before the end of the year.

"Historically, our music performances have been among our most popular offerings for senior groups, and we are excited to see their enthusiastic response to our fall schedule of events,” Julie McFarland, executive director of public affairs and community engagement for the DIA said in a press release. “Melodies at the Museum is a unique opportunity designed specifically for our seniors to enjoy the arts and music in the DIA’s historic auditorium. We are delighted to offer this series once again and look forward to welcoming many more senior groups in the future.”

Senior groups from all three counties enjoyed Melodies at the Museum in November with a captivating musical performance by The Mack Sisters: Pianists Yuki and Tomoko Mack.

"Sometimes paintings and sculptures can be difficult for people to understand, but music appeals to a wider audience because it is something everyone knows,” Irena Paransky, group coordinator for the Oak Park Senior Center, said in a press release. “They were so excited (that) they want to come back in December."

Two more Melodies at the Museum events will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 6 and Wednesday, Dec. 13, that will feature the Alvin Waddles and Marion Hayden Quartet. They will entertain the audience with original songs, jazz standards, and more, promising another extraordinary musical experience for our community members.
