ROCHESTER HILLS — A 74-year-old man from Rochester Hills was killed in a three-vehicle traffic crash the evening of Oct. 12.

According to reports from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, at around 8 p.m., the man was driving a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on Auburn Road, near John R Road, in Rochester Hills when he struck the back of a 2009 Ford Edge that was stopped at a red light.

The collision forced the Edge into a 2020 GMC Sierra that had also stopped for the traffic signal.

The Jeep driver, officials said, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died. Investigators said he was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Edge, a 49-year-old man from Utica, along with the driver of the Sierra, a 24-year-old man from Fennville, were also reportedly wearing seatbelts and were not injured in the crash, authorities said.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash, and authorities said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the incident.
