ROCHESTER HILLS — A woman accused of assaulting a Meijer cashier earlier this month has been identified by police.
After asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect, Stephen Huber, the communications officer for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that the woman has been identified.
“The case has been presented to prosecutors,” Huber said in an email. “We are waiting for a decision on whether the suspect will be charged or not.”
Police did not release any additional information regarding the woman’s identity.
The incident, according to authorities, occurred before 6 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Meijer on Market Place Circle in Rochester Hills, when a cashier, 55, advised a woman that she had too many items to use the self-scan checkout.
Deputies said the female suspect — who was accompanied by two young women — said she had two separate orders because one was for her daughter.
While the woman finished her transaction, the cashier went to the restroom on her break and later overheard someone speaking. When she looked through an opening in the stall to see what was happening, the female suspect reportedly kicked the locked stall door in, causing it to strike the cashier on the head. When the cashier looked to see if the woman was still in the restroom, she saw that the woman had exited.
When the cashier exited the restroom, she found that the woman had waited to confront her. Authorities said the suspect then grabbed the cashier by the hair, threw her to the ground and punched her repeatedly before leaving the store with the two young females in a late model green Chevrolet Traverse.
A bit of the cashier’s hair was found lying on the ground near where she was assaulted. The cashier declined treatment at the scene.
