ROCHESTER HILLS — An 18-year-old man was arrested April 3 after he tried to pull over an off-duty police officer in Rochester Hills, authorities said.

Christian Katan Mansoor, of Macomb Township, was arraigned in 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills April 5 and charged with impersonating a public officer, a misdemeanor. He was released on a $5,000 bond.

“Individuals that pose as police officers present a threat to the public and undermine legitimate law enforcement,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said the incident took place near M-59 and Crooks Road in Rochester Hills shortly after 11 p.m. April 3.

An off-duty Waterford Township police officer reported to deputies that Mansoor, driving a silver BMW with flashing red and blue lights, positioned his vehicle behind hers in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. The off-duty officer said Mansoor passed her near Dequindre and Hamlin roads, and she followed him to confront him.

When she identified herself as a police officer and asked Mansoor for identification, he reportedly claimed he was a Detroit police officer from the 12th Precinct. When she asked him for identification, he said he needed to retrieve it from his car and then drove away.

The off-duty officer followed him to a mobile home community in Shelby Township, but lost sight of his vehicle. Deputies later found the vehicle and Mansoor, who was switching license plates from the BMW he was driving to another BMW he owned, police said. He was arrested after a short foot chase, according to reports.

“Thankfully, this individual was caught and is being held accountable for this incident,” Bouchard said in a statement. “But if you had a similar incident with this described automobile or this pictured individual, please contact us.”

Mansoor did not have an attorney on file at press time.
