Veterans Day has been celebrated in the United States on Nov. 11 for more than 100 years, and this Friday, local communities in the C & G Newspapers coverage area will continue that tradition of honoring those who served.

2. Novi Pet Expo
Nov. 11-13 • Suburban Collection Showplace

The 17th annual Novi Pet Expo will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Suburban Collection Showplace, 46100 Grand River Ave. The event will feature Sara Carson and The Super Collies from “America’s Got Talent,” wiener dog races, Rock N Roll K9s agility demonstrations, the famous huskies from YouTube’s Gone to the Snow Dogs, photos with Santa Claus and more. Pets can be brought if they are on a leash and have proof of current vaccinations. Also at the Suburban Collection Showplace, the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and the CFA All Breed Cat Show will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 3. Craft shows/artisan markets

'Tis the season for creative types to haul out the holly so customers can decorate the halls again. C & G Newspapers has been stockpiling Christmas events — around 100 in all — to get readers in a festive mood. A handful of these include craft shows and artisan markets at local venues this Saturday and Sunday.

4. Big Bird Run
Nov 13 • Roseville

The 44th Annual Big Bird Run will get moving at 10 a.m. (check-in at 8:15 a.m.) Sunday at the Recreational Authority of Roseville & Eastpointe, 18185 Sycamore St. in Roseville. Entry fees are $25 for the mile, $35 for the 5K, which is a new event this year, and $40 for the 10K by 6 p.m. Friday; add $5 on the day of the event. Registration includes age division awards (all participants will receive medals), raffle prizes, gloves, refreshments, bagels and fruit. There will also be a giveaway of 20 frozen turkeys. Proceeds will go to community service organizations who assist local families and students in need.
