Celebrate Berkley's centennial with an event that has been around for nearly as long. Berkley Days, which has been ongoing since 1926, will be open 5-10 p.m. Thursday, 4-11 p.m. Friday, 1-11 p.m. Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday outside the city’s Community Center, 2400 Robina Ave. The weekend fair will include carnival rides, karaoke, live music, a beer tent, a kids zone, fireworks and the return of The Taste of Berkley. 2. Art Birmingham
May 13-14 • Birmingham
Around 150 jury-selected artists will be selling their pieces during Art Birmingham from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Shain Park, located in the heart of the city on Merrill Street. The popular free event, which attracts approximately 80,000 people annually, will also have a children’s art activity tent and food vendors. 3. Huntington Woods Art & Garden Fair
May 13 • Huntington Woods
While Art Birmingham is a veteran at 42 years, a new kid will come to Oakland County when the Huntington Woods Art & Garden Fair debuts from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The free event will feature family-friendly arts and crafts, a seed exchange, and keynote speakers from the Detroit Institute of Arts, Belle Isle Conservancy and Ferndale Rat Patrol, all at the Huntington Woods Library, 26415 Scotia Road. At the nearby Gillham Recreation Center, folks can shop for a gift during Mother's Day weekend from local artists and vendors. 4. Perennial exchange
May 13 • Shelby Township
The Friends of the Shelby Township Library will host its annual perennial exchange from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Shelby Township Library, 52610 Van Dyke Ave. There are no costs to anyone involved and the coffee and doughnut holes will be complimentary. Utica Antiques Market
The first of three Utica Antiques Markets in 2023 will take place 8-5 p.m. Saturday and 8-4 p.m. Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Grounds, 11541 21 Mile Road in Shelby Township. The largest outdoor event of its kind in southeastern Michigan "brings together thousands of items from all over the country with pieces from all periods for the serious collector or the novice," according to its website. Admission costs $5 (ages 12 and younger can enter for free); there is no charge for parking. Future dates include July 8-9 and Sept. 9-10. For more information, visit uticaantiques.com.
5. Supper with a Soldier
May 13 • Troy
The Troy Historic Village, 60 W. Wattles Road, will host an interactive day of learning Civil War history with professional reenactors from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday. "Supper with a Solider" will find members of the Union and Confederate armies showcasing the food, equipment, drills and living conditions typical of both sides, as well as reenactors portraying surgeons and hospital stewards. In addition, civilian reenactors will discuss women’s domestic roles in the spring. Tickets, which include the cost of dinner, are $25 for adults and $20 for youths 6-17; ages 5 and younger will be admitted for free.
