BERKLEY — Dr. Danielle Alperin and her husband and business partner, Mark, opened New View Eye Care in Berkley last fall with the goal of making eye care easier for local families. They built the practice around what she would want as a patient: clear communication, modern technology and time to talk through concerns without feeling rushed.
“Patients often describe me as friendly and efficient,” Dr. Alperin said. “We want our patients to have a stress-free experience—to feel confident that we’re here to take care of them.”
The community’s response was immediate. “We actually opened a few days early because people were stopping by and wanted exams,” she said.
New View provides routine vision care along with care for eye health concerns. A typical exam focuses on refractive care—updating glasses or contact lens prescriptions—followed by optomap imaging. “That’s our wide-field Optos digital retinal imaging, which captures detailed views of the back of the eye,” she added. Results are sent digitally into the exam system, and if anything looks out of the ordinary, the visit can shift to a medical evaluation that targets concerns such as diabetes-related eye changes, glaucoma or macular degeneration.
One procedure patients will be happy they don’t have to endure is the traditional “puff of air” test. Eye pressure is instead checked with a modern rebound tonometer, a more patient-friendly alternative.
Dry eye care is another area Dr. Alperin is building into the practice. “Dry eye is my passion,” she said, noting that symptoms can vary widely. Evaluation starts with a thorough history, then a close look at the eyelids, lashes and cornea, paired with imaging to evaluate the glands in the eyelids that support healthy tears.
Katie, the practice’s optician, takes the lead when it’s time to choose glasses. She helps patients match frames and lenses to comfort, lifestyle and budget. The selection includes MODO, Scott Harris, Ørgreen, Etnia Barcelona, ECO, Kate Spade, ProDesign and Ray-Ban, plus DB4K children’s frames.
