SOUTHFIELD — As more parents look for alternatives in education, many are searching for a place where academic fundamentals matter—and where faith and character are part of everyday learning.
Children’s Prep Academy offers that kind of close-knit environment, where faith-based instruction helps students grow academically, spiritually and emotionally.
Dr. Sylvia Jordan, director of the private Christian school, said the school’s educational philosophy helps students discover their God-given potential, gain confidence and build a strong foundation that can guide them for years to come.
Serving students from pre-K through sixth grade, the school provides a technology-integrated learning environment. Dr. Jordan said the school’s small classes give teachers and students more personal interaction and meaningful one-on-one time. “Children thrive in a smaller classroom setting.”
That mission is deeply personal to Dr. Jordan and her husband Pastor Larry. “This school really grew out of our love for children, ministry and community service,” she said. “Over time, that passion evolved in us to create the avenues in which children can flourish and have a strong sense of self and purpose.”
That heart for children is evident throughout the school. Rather than simply focusing on lessons and assignments, Children’s Prep Academy aims to nurture the whole child. “We’re not just instructing them and giving them the tools to learn, but transforming their minds to believe, ‘I can do it,’” she said.
Faith is woven into the school day from the start. Students begin each morning with chapel, focusing on character development, spiritual principles and habits such as respect, honesty and attentiveness. “We look at it on a holistic level,” Dr. Jordan said. “We don’t separate faith as a separate subject. It’s part of who we are and what we do.”
The school also places strong emphasis on core skills such as reading, phonics, math, cursive handwriting, language development, social studies and science. Dr. Jordan said that early groundwork is critical to helping children succeed in the classroom and beyond. Dr. Jordan said the school incorporates smart boards, iPads and Chromebooks into everyday instruction because children are growing up with technology at their fingertips.
That commitment to early learning begins well before kindergarten at Victory Learning Center, the school’s daycare center. Dr. Jordan said young children are already learning letters, sounds, numbers and colors before they transition into the school setting. Families interested in learning more are invited to attend Children’s Prep Academy’s Open House on April 29-30, 2026. The event offers parents an opportunity to learn more about the school’s program, meet teachers and explore their enrollment options.
