TROY — Troy firefighters were called to the scene of a traffic crash on northbound Interstate 75, north of 14 Mile Road, just before 7:45 a.m. March 16.

According to a press release, due to the possible restriction of the location on I-75 due to construction, additional crews were dispatched.

Firefighters asked Troy police to close the northbound lanes.

Crews arrived to find a Chevrolet Volt on its side, with one person inside.

Firefighters and paramedics from Alliance Mobile Health determined that due to the woman’s potential injuries and the way she was entangled, the removal process would be lengthy, according to the press release.

Firefighters said they used the Jaws of Life and hydraulic cutters to remove the roof of the Volt. According to the release, stabilization posts were needed to steady the vehicle while crews worked to disentangle the woman.

Firefighters and paramedics were at the scene for approximately one hour.

Once removed, the woman was treated by paramedics and transported to a hospital. Her condition is not known. Troy police are investigating the accident and its cause.
