Local tennis talent competes in Greater Rochester Open

ROCHESTER — The 43rd annual Greater Rochester Open tennis tournament took place July 25-31 with 133 people (55 adults, 13 juniors) competing in this year’s tournament.

Twenty past GRO champions returned to be part of the field. Many of them were able to reclaim that top spot. Lew Hayner claimed his 12th GRO title by winning a senior men’s event. Vlad Meluta won his sixth junior title when he repeated in the Boys 18 Doubles event.

Other returning champions included Eric Bracciano in the Men’s 40 Singles, Leo Zoller in the Men’s 70 Singles, Alexis Anthes in the Girls 18 Singles, and Paige and Elle Nicholson in the Girl’s 18 Doubles.
