OAKLAND COUNTY — Ronald Dwyer bested Al Gui in the Republican primary Aug. 2 for the 3rd District of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.

MADISON HEIGHTS — A program currently being developed by the city of Madison Heights will provide eligible homeowners with affordable household repairs starting next summer, once the federal government approves funds for it.

OAKLAND COUNTY/WAYNE COUNTY — In the primary election Aug. 2, Mike McFall, the mayor pro tem of Hazel Park, secured the Democratic nomination for the newly redrawn 8th District of the State House of Representatives. He defeated Madison Heights City Councilman David Soltis, Durrel Douglas, Ernest Little and Ryan Nelson.

MADISON HEIGHTS/STERLING HEIGHTS/TROY — In the primary election Aug. 2, Aisha Farooqi won the Democratic nomination for the 57th District of the Michigan House of Representatives, prevailing over Marcia Squier.       

METRO DETROIT — On the night of the Aug. 2 primary election, before the final results were tallied, Andy Levin conceded defeat to Haley Stevens. Her victory was confirmed the following day.

OAKLAND COUNTY — A new Oakland County Land Bank was approved by the county’s Board of Commissioners at its June 23 meeting.

HAZEL PARK — Officials say work has begun cleaning out a home in Hazel Park where the owner was found dead amid squalid conditions earlier this month.

MADISON HEIGHTS — The Detroit Institute of Arts has partnered with Oakland County Parks and Recreation to bring high-quality reproductions of famous art pieces to their parks, including the Red Oaks Nature Center, as part of the DIA’s Inside|Out program.

WARREN — A man is dead and another is in jail after a hit-and-run crash Tuesday morning. At approximately 5 a.m. July 12, Warren police officers were dispatched to a suspected crash involving a bicyclist near 13 Mile and Mound roads.
