MADISON HEIGHTS — The Modernize I-75 project is coming to a close, with finishing touches in 2024. State officials say the 18 miles of updated road will benefit commuters across the region.  But in Madison Heights, some are expressing concern about the toll it took on the community.

HAZEL PARK — A tragic accident recently occurred during a military training exercise, killing a 2018 graduate of Hazel Park High School.  Sgt. Matthew Bylski died in a vehicle rollover Dec. 12 at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, located in Oceanside, Calif.

OAKLAND COUNTY — Gorman’s Home Furnishings and Interior Design announced on Dec. 17 that they will host their 15th annual Charity Recliner Promotion to help make a difference in the lives of afflicted individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability.

HAZEL PARK — A 65-year-old Hazel Park man is in police custody after reportedly stalking a woman and vandalizing her property. The woman, also 65 and a resident of Hazel Park, had reportedly already received a personal protection order against the man.

MADISON HEIGHTS — A local man stands accused of sharing and requesting explicit photos with an underage girl, and police believe there may be more victims.

HAZEL PARK — Four people have been arrested in connection with the case of a vehicle that was stolen in Hazel Park and recovered in Detroit.

HAZEL PARK — Police and firefighters face many perils, and there is no guarantee they will return home at the end of the shift. That’s why, amid the cold darkness of winter nights, residents are asked to place a blue or red light in their window as a show of support.

MADISON HEIGHTS — Earlier this year, the city of Madison Heights announced a program recognizing exceptional volunteers with its At Your Service Awards. The 2023 winners were revealed at the Nov. 27 City Council meeting.

OAKLAND COUNTY — An increase in thieves breaking into multimillion-dollar homes across northern Oakland County and stealing valuables has prompted Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard to create a new task force targeting what he believes is a transnational crime ring.

OAKLAND COUNTY — Motorists should be on high alert for deer in the roadway this winter. Each year, there are over 50,000 deer-car crashes reported in Michigan, according to the Michigan State Police, with the majority of vehicle-deer crashes occurring in the late fall and early winter.

MADISON HEIGHTS — Ten cats are currently at the Madison Heights Animal Shelter waiting to find their forever homes. With the holidays underway, officials also hope to see an uptick in charitable giving to the shelter, which relies on donations to take care of the animals there.

MADISON HEIGHTS — The Oakland County Board of Commissioners has chosen its replacement for the late Gary McGillivray, who long represented his hometown of Madison Heights along with Hazel Park and parts of Troy as the commissioner for District 3.

OAKLAND COUNTY — The Michigan High School Athletic Association swim and dive state finals marked a successful end to the season for a slew of Oakland County teams Nov. 18.

MADISON HEIGHTS — At its meeting Nov. 16, the new-look Madison Heights City Council reversed course on two lawsuits filed by marijuana companies.

HAZEL PARK — A federal grant will provide the Hazel Park Community Coalition $625,000 during the next five years, with eligibility to seek another five years of funding totaling $1.25 million over 10 years, as the coalition works to reduce substance use among youth.

MADISON HEIGHTS — A new council has taken shape in Madison Heights following last month’s election, including a new member and some historic firsts for diversity in the city.

OAKLAND COUNTY — Oakland County Parks and Recreation is encouraging people to not sacrifice their health and wellness goals just because of the cold weather.
