ROSEVILLE — Westbound Interstate 94 remains closed several hours after a multivehicle crash closed it during the morning of Sept. 13.

Shortly after 8 a.m., Roseville firefighters were dispatched to westbound I-94 at 12 Mile Road for reports of a crash, Roseville Fire Department Chief Keith Jacobs said.

Michigan State Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a tractor-trailer lost control and the truck began to slide. It struck another vehicle and ultimately jackknifed.

A total of six vehicles reportedly were involved in the crash. There were no injuries, according to Michigan State Police.

However, the truck spilled diesel fuel on the freeway, causing a hazardous materials situation. Jacobs said the appropriate agencies had been notified and cleanup was underway at about 11:30 a.m.

There is no environmental threat, he said.

While the freeway remains closed, vehicles are being routed off the highway at the Little Mack Avenue ramp and can reenter the highway from the 12 Mile Road ramp.

Jacobs was unable to give a timeline for the cleanup. The Michigan Department of Transportation said in a post that it is expected to remain closed through the afternoon.
