When Macomb County voters elected Republican Peter Lucido as county prosecutor last year, Lucido had to vacate his Michigan Senate seat. In the Aug. 3 primary, voters will choose the Democratic Party and Republican Party nominees to advance to the Nov. 2 general election, when the remainder of Lucido’s term will be awarded to the winner. The partial term will expire Jan. 1, 2023. Voters Aug. 3 may vote in only one party’s primary.

Candidates were asked, in 75 words or fewer, to state their top goal(s) if elected. If a candidate went over the word limit, (…) replaces the rest of the answer. The answers are printed verbatim.

State Senate District 8

Two Democrats and seven Republicans are running in the Aug. 3 primary to win their party’s nomination and advance to the Nov. 2 general election.

Top goals: I will be your voice. The constituents’ interests have been forgotten and replaced with special interest groups. Politicians are all talk and no action. When casting your vote, ask yourself if the person you are voting for has done anything while in office. Have they represented your interests? Is the individual fighting for: the unborn? Vaccination Passports? Critical Race Theory? I’ll always represent you and ensure your God given Constitutional rights are never infringed.
