Two men wanted for armed robbery at Berkley home

Police are on the lookout for two men who they say broke into a Berkley house and robbed the residents at gunpoint.

According to Deputy Public Safety Director Bob North, at around 9 p.m. on Jan. 30, Berkley Public Safety officers responded to a call about a home invasion on Greenfield Road, near Webster Road. The victims reported that a pair of black males wearing hooded sweatshirts had just entered their home and ransacked the place.

“They were able to get inside the house through a ruse,” North said. “One of the guys was carrying what appeared to be a small handgun.”

Once inside, the men searched the home and stole cash, ATM cards, an iPod and a cellphone. They then fled the scene on foot, but no escape vehicle was seen. Berkley Public Safety contacted the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and requested a K-9 unit to track the suspects. The dog searched the surrounding area but was unable to pick up a scent.

When asked if the two victims were injured at all during the robbery, North said that he could not reveal any medical information or comment on their condition.

He did state, however, that Berkley Public Safety was working hard to find and arrest the suspects. “We are investigating the possibility that this was not a random act,” he said. “This appeared to be a case where these guys were not just there by coincidence.”

North urged all residents to be cautious of any suspicious or unknown persons who come to their door, especially at night. He advised them to keep their doors locked and their outside lights on, and to call the police if they fear that they are in danger.

Anyone with additional information on the robbery is asked to call Berkley Public Safety at (248) 658-3380.
