SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Since renovating its buildings and adding upscale restrooms, heating and air conditioning, the historic Packard Proving Grounds has become a growing wedding destination.

The nonprofit organization will host its third annual wedding show from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 26. This year, the 6,400-square-foot repair garage will be separated into four sections, each decorated in the style of one of the four seasons.

For $3 in advance or $5 at the door, guests can browse more than 60 vendors, including caterers, florists, hotels, equipment rental companies, linen rentals, photographers, event planners and designers, bakeries, jewelry dealers, invitation consultants, salons, musicians, DJs and more.

Mary Anne Demo, event coordinator for the Packard Proving Grounds, said there will be food sampling and specialty music throughout the event.

“This is not only a great way to learn about potential vendors, but to tour the historic venue and even view our eight classic Packard cars to help you decide which ones you want included in your wedding,” Demo said. “Some of our PPG alumni couples attend the show to share their experience and best practices, plus some of them have wedding items for sale.”

Jennie Wiegand, owner of Beautiful Day Planning in Shelby Township, partnered with the Packard Proving Grounds to coordinate the layout of the four seasons design theme. She said organizers wanted to give the show a different feel than traditional wedding expos.

“We also wanted to highlight the cool things couples can do with Packard, because it’s one of the few places where not only are you allowed to hang things from the ceiling, it’s actually really easy to do so,” Wiegand said. “(The Packard Proving Grounds is) frankly one of my favorite venues in the area.”

She said four different vendors are decorating the ceiling, one for each season.

An added benefit of the show, she said, is that all of the vendors have worked on weddings held inside the Packard Proving Grounds’ repair garage, so they have experience with the venue.

“The show is good not only for people who might be considering Packard, but also anyone getting married in the area,” Wiegand said. “You can’t beat the price. The amount of catering and dessert samples is worth more than the $3-$5 to walk in the door.”

Event proceeds will benefit ongoing renovations at the historic site, established by the Packard Motor Car Co. in 1927. Tickets can be purchased at

Demo added that the site has a new website, www.packard, where couples can check a live calendar for date availability and schedule a site tour.
