Bob Bashara — husband of murdered Park woman Jane Bashara — emerged from his home around 3 p.m. Feb. 1 to make a brief statement to the media.
Flanked by his mother, Nancy Bashara, and his son, Robert, Bashara wiped away tears as he thanked people for their outpouring of support since the death of his wife, who was found slain in her vehicle in a Detroit alley Jan. 25.
“We wish to thank the hundreds and hundreds of supporters and people who have shown their love and respect for my Jane,” he told reporters in a statement that was live-streamed over the Internet. “This is an unconceivable tragedy.”
He asked for people to respect the family’s need for privacy as they mourn the loss of Jane Bashara, a marketing executive and beloved fixture in the community.
“We have cooperated with law enforcement agencies and will continue to do so,” Bashara said. “Both our families grieve, and in light of this horrific event, we ask for your prayers (and) we ask for your continued support.”
Bashara declined to answer questions from reporters at the scene, including allegations that a man identified as Joseph Gentz was an accomplice in Jane Bashara’s murder.
Robert Bashara Jr. — whose younger sister, Jessica, wasn’t present because she had to return to college — voiced support for his father, who has been called a “person of interest” by police in this case.
“My sister and I support our dad through all of this,” he told reporters. “We miss our mom so much.”
