Committee volunteers sought in Farms

GROSSE POINTE FARMS — The city is looking for a few good residents — to serve on its committees, that is.

The Farms is soliciting applicants for all committees — including the new Communications Committee — through notices on the city’s website and on the local government access cable channel, City Manager Shane Reeside said. The Communications Committee will review all forms of city communication, including Nixle online notices and the newsletter, he said. It will consist of a maximum of two City Council members — at this point, Lev Wood and Martin West — along with three resident volunteers, Reeside said.

The Communications Committee would be responsible for making recommendations on ways to improve communication with residents, as well as some of the types of information that should be shared with the community.

West said they were hopeful they’d be able to come back to the council in March with committee member recommendations. Once appointed by the council and nominating committee, committee members would serve two-year terms.

During a Feb. 6 City Council meeting, the council unanimously approved policies for the Communications Committee. The rules “really mirror the policies and procedures in place for other committees,” Reeside said.

Anyone interested in applying for the Communications Committee, or any other city committee, should submit a letter of interest and résumé to City Clerk Matthew Tepper, Reeside said.
