A 6-year-old girl remained in critical condition Feb. 22, hours after she was reportedly struck by an SUV on Nine Mile between Ryan and Dequindre.

According to Warren Police Detective Lt. Dan Beck, the girl was struck on Nine Mile at Warner at about 6 p.m. Feb. 21.

“She stepped out in front of a car,” Beck said. “He’s (the driver) not at fault.”

Beck said the girl is a Warren resident and lives about a half mile from the intersection.

It was not immediately clear why the girl was near the road. The investigation was handled by the department’s afternoon shift.

The girl was reportedly transported from the scene by the Warren Fire Department and taken to Children’s Hospital in Detroit, where she remained in critical condition.

Beck said a 28-year-old Ferndale man was behind the wheel of the 2002 Ford Escape that struck the girl. The driver reportedly stopped immediately after the girl was struck and was released at the scene.

The driver was not expected to face charges.
