A change in the schedule pushed the start of the state girls basketball playoffs back a week and moved the beginning of the boys postseason up seven days.

That means the girls basketball postseason begins March 4. The tournament ends with the semifinals and finals, set for March 21-23 at Calvin College in Grand Rapids.

Before the season started, the Farmington High wrestling coaches knew they had a young team, but they wanted to achieve two major goals: win the city meet and take home a district championship trophy. 

The Falcons were able to do both, as they knocked off rivals North Farmington and Farmington Hills Harrison for the city title, while beating Orchard Lake St. Mary’s and Auburn Hills Avondale to claim a Division 2 district title.

GROSSE POINTES — The wrestling season may not have ended the way Grosse Pointe North and Grosse Pointe South wanted, but there are still positives to take away from a strong season. North and South battled in the opening round of a Division 1 team district Feb. 7 at South. Ultimately, South was able to squeak out a 39-37 victory over the Norsemen.
