GROSSE POINTE –– The Grosse Pointe South girls tennis team entered the Division 1 state final May 31-June 1 at Greater Midland Tennis Center looking to complete two phases. Phase one was to get everybody as far as possible on the first day. Most of the Blue Devils didn’t have too much trouble advancing to the semifinals, but Ann Arbor Pioneer was looking to stop South’s momentum.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS — The Bloomfield Hills Sacred Heart girls tennis team has won the Division 4 state championship in five out of the last seven years, including last season. The Gazelles won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013, and again in 2015 and 2016.

CLARKSTON — The winning ways of the Clarkston Everest Collegiate girls tennis team continued May 11 at Dearborn High. The Mountaineers won the Division 2 championship at the Catholic High School League tournament. The Everest tennis team also consists of members from Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest. In fact, a trio of Crusaders dominated on their way to titles.

The Eagles had gone through a lull earlier in the season. They were winning, but coach Desiree Messina didn’t feel the team was playing to its full potential. After a talk with her players, she learned of some outside pressure they were feeling to keep the undefeated streak alive.
