HARRISON TOWNSHIP — This winter has seen the Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse wrestling team add to its collection of banners and trophies. Among the list of accomplishments, the Lancers finished with a 16-3 dual meet record and won Macomb Area Conference White Division dual meet and tournament championships. L’Anse Creuse just missed out on a trip to team regionals, losing to Clinton Township Chippewa Valley Feb. 7 on tiebreaker criteria in the Division 1 postseason.

WARREN — A late surge overtime surge pushed the Warren Woods Tower boys basketball team past Warren Mott 65-60 in a Feb. 25 Division 1 district quarterfinal. The extra session started with three lead changes, which put the Marauders up 57-56 with 1:45 left in overtime.

In recent matchups, Brighton High has had Macomb Dakota wrestling’s number.

The Bulldogs bested the Cougars in a 2018 Division 1 state semifinal. Brighton earlier in this regular season knocked off Dakota too. 

The Bulldogs’ latest win over the Cougars came in a 60-10 victory in a D-1 quarterfinal in Kalamazoo Feb. 22.

A change in the schedule pushed the start of the state girls basketball playoffs back a week and moved the beginning of the boys postseason up seven days.

That means the girls basketball postseason begins March 4. The tournament ends with the semifinals and finals, set for March 21-23 at Calvin College in Grand Rapids.

MACOMB COUNTY — When the Macomb Area Conference tournaments tip later this month, they will have a decidedly local flavor. Eight teams from programs inside the Warren Weekly coverage area will compete in the tournaments. The top four teams in each of the MAC’s six divisions will have a chance to play for a MAC tournament title. The fifth- and sixth-place teams in each division will play in a consolation bracket.
