ROYAL OAK/CLAWSON — Residents in Royal Oak and Clawson will have proposed charter changes to decide on for the November election.

FERNDALE/PLEASANT RIDGE — In an update from the Michigan Department of Transportation, construction work on Woodward Avenue is expected to be completed by late November.

BERKLEY — An ordinance to ban the sale of dogs, cats and rabbits in Berkley was passed by the City Council. Approved at its Sept. 18 meeting, the law prohibits a retail pet store in Berkley from selling and adopting dogs, cats and rabbits. 

BERKLEY — Berkley held a grand opening for its new inclusive playground equipment at one of its parks, and it also announced a new name for the park.

ROYAL OAK — In her State of the Schools address Sept. 28, Royal Oak Schools Superintendent Mary Beth Fitzpatrick addressed a new strategic plan for the district’s next five years, up to 2028.

ROYAL OAK — A proposed development that would build a four-story building on 11 Mile Road was tabled at a recent Royal Oak Planning Commission meeting.

FERNDALE — Ferndale’s big fall art fairs will be making their returns this month. The Funky Ferndale Art Fair and DIY Street Fair will take place on both sides of Nine Mile Road Sept. 22-24. The Funky Ferndale Art Fair is located on West Nine Mile, and the DIY Street Fair is located on East Nine Mile.

BERKLEY — The former Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit, located in West Bloomfield, is aiming to open a new center in Berkley within the next couple of years.

CLAWSON — The court in the Clawson High School gymnasium will be forever adorned with the name of Alexandria Verner.
