GROSSE POINTE WOODS/FARMS/PARK — Grosse Pointe Public Library Board At-Large Trustee Elizabeth Vogel recently stepped down from the board to take on the role of Grosse Pointe Rotary Club president.

According to a library press release, the Grosse Pointe Farms City Council unanimously appointed Robert S. Allen to the library board to fill the vacancy.

“Liz has been a fantastic, engaged board member. I’m confident she will bring the same enthusiasm to the Rotary board,” library Director Jessica Keyser said. “I’m looking forward to working with Bob and getting to know him. I appreciate his commitment to the community and his dedication to libraries.”

Vogel was a library board member for eight years. She served as library president for two years and also as vice president and treasurer. She originally joined the board representing Grosse Pointe Farms and then became the at-large member when she moved to Grosse Pointe City. Vogel reportedly led the library’s strategic planning initiative and chaired the team to hire Keyser. She also supported the millage renewal in 2018.

The Albion College graduate is the Clinton Township deputy supervisor. During her tenure on the library board, Vogel earned a Master of Business Administration from Baker College.

Allen is the communications director for the Detroit Athletic Club. He previously spent nine years working for daily newspapers and worked for Crain Communications for 24 years.

Library trustees serve four-year terms. Each Grosse Pointe municipality and Harper Woods appoint one representative to the board with one additional at-large member. Board members hire and evaluate the library director and oversee the fiscal management and general business of the library.

Because of COVID-19, the library is still closed, but on March 8, staff opened for “Grab & Go” at all three locations. According to the library website, grossepointelibrary.org, patrons can come into the building for a half-hour time limit. Public seating is restricted, and computers are available for 30 minutes by appointment. Masks and social distancing are required.

The library is still offering curbside pickup, as well. Customers can contact the library by phone, place items on hold and pick them up. For more information, call (313) 640-4775. Items also can be placed on hold at the library’s website.
