Sterling Heights police say they recently took a person of interest into custody after a woman was found dead.

Police said they began investigating an apparent homicide case at around 3 p.m. July 24 in the 43000 block of Charlemagne Avenue, near 19 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue. Police said a woman was found dead, and on July 26, they identified her as Kathleen Hales, 48, from Sterling Heights.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the victim’s family during this very difficult time,” Sterling Heights Police Lt. Mario Bastianelli said in a statement.

Bastianelli further told C & G Newspapers that police found Hales’ body inside a mobile home. When asked about the cause of death, Bastianelli said that could not be revealed yet due to the ongoing investigation.

Police added that they now have apprehended a “person of interest” and credited the investigations bureau’s work in making it happen.

“As of right now, we feel that there is no further threat to the public,” Bastianelli’s statement said.

The SHPD did not identify the person of interest, and Bastianelli said how that person was found “cannot be released at this time” and that it is “still under investigation.”
