UTICA — Woman’s Life Macomb Angels Chapter 911 is hosting a fundraiser to support and show appreciation for Macomb County law enforcement agencies through its first Operation Back the Blue fundraiser.

Now through July 19, which is national ice cream day, people can pre-purchase a coupon for a single scoop of ice cream for $5, a double scoop for $10, or a triple scoop for $15, and a portion of the proceeds will go to Woman’s Life Macomb Angels Chapter 911 to purchase “blue items” to put inside care bags. The care bags will be distributed to different Macomb County law enforcement locations.

Blue items are blue in color or packaging, such as blue Gatorade, blue lollipops, pop tarts, Rice Krispies Treats, sunflower seeds, Nestle Crunch bars and more.

There are several ways to participate in the fundraiser: people can go in person to Double Dippers Ashby’s Ice Cream, located at 46540 Van Dyke Ave., and purchase a coupon; people can mail a check to Woman’s Life Chapter 911, 8310 Hall Road No. 6, Utica, MI 48317, or they can donate on PayPal to wl911macombangels@gmail.com or Venmo to @WL911.

Proof-of-purchase coupons will be returned to those who choose to purchase digitally.

Lauren Alijaj, of Sterling Heights, who is working with Woman’s Life Macomb Angels Chapter 911 members, said the group has already received donations to help the cause.

“When Lynn from Woman’s Life Chapter 911 reached out to me about participating in the Operation Back Our Blue Project, I was very excited. We have already received several deliveries of blue wrapped snacks,” said Alijaj in an email.

Janice Davis, of Shelby Township, said she is happy to be a part of the fundraiser.

“I am honored to be working in conjunction with Woman’s Life Chapter 911 for (the) Operation Back The Blue Fundraiser. These men and women work hard every day, and this is a way we can show our appreciation. I have supported the local departments for a number of years with other fundraising events, and unfortunately, we have had to put our normal fundraiser on hold where you can come into the store and (meet) your local officers and have them scoop your ice cream. We are hoping to be able to hold this event later in the fall, but in the (meantime), we want to let them know that we are here,” Davis said in an email.

Woman’s Life Chapter 911 Macomb Angels is a group of volunteers who do service projects and fundraisers for individuals and nonprofits in Macomb County.
