ST. CLAIR SHORES — Eastbound Interstate 94 has reopened east of Little Mack Avenue after a rollover accident that left the driver in critical condition.

According to the Michigan State Police Metro Detroit Post's Twitter feed, witnesses observed a vehicle traveling in the left lane of eastbound I-94 east of Little Mack Avenue when its tire came off just before 9 a.m. Oct. 18.

The vehicle veered to the right and the driver tried to regain control, but ended up hitting the median, rolling the vehicle. Michigan State Police report that the 28-year-old driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, but a 7-year-old passenger was wearing a seatbelt and was unharmed in the crash. Both occupants were taken to a local hospital and police shut down the freeway.

As of 12:20 p.m., the driver was in critical condition and next of kin had taken custody of the child. The freeway has been reopend and the investigation is ongoing.
