A Troy family is displaced after they discovered a fire in the basement of their home on Timbercrest Drive, near Wattles and Dequindre roads, just after 7:30 p.m. May 12.

According to a press release, firefighters arrived at the home and confirmed that all residents were out of the home and that there was an active fire in the basement.

Crews established ventilation, then entered the basement to discover a fire in the basement-level kitchen, according to the release.

The residents had closed the door to the basement kitchen, which separated the fire from the rest of the home and helped to contain the fire damage, according to the release.

The home reportedly had working fire alarms, which had not yet activated when the residents discovered the blaze. When the alarms sounded, all of the residents safely evacuated from the home, the release states.

Although the fire was confined to the basement, the electricity was shut off and the Troy Building Department must ensure that repair contractors make the area safe before residents return, according to the release.

Initial investigation indicated that an air fryer unit may have sparked the blaze, the release states

The investigation continues, and damage estimates are incomplete.
