Catalytic converter thieves shoot Troy man

TROY — A Troy man was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg after a confrontation with two men attempting to steal the catalytic converter from his vehicle.

The incident occurred at 3:42 a.m. June 13 outside a home in the area of Fredmoor Street and South Boulevard.

The victim told police that he confronted two subjects in his driveway who he said were stealing the catalytic converter from his pickup truck. After the victim called out to them, both subjects fled to a dark-colored SUV waiting on the grass near the driveway. The victim said that one of the subjects turned toward him and fired a handgun before fleeing.

Officers were already in the area investigating another catalytic converter theft in the area of Cypress Drive and Bristol Drive in which a similarly described SUV had been reported.

No suspects have been identified as of press time.
