Bridge work will close Livernois and Long Lake under I-75

Crews will demolish the southbound Interstate 75 bridge over Livernois Road, closing Livernois Road in both directions of the roadway under I-75 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 7 and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 8. 

The southbound I-75 ramp from Big Beaver Road also will close during those same times while crews set the bridge beams. 

Suggested detours are Big Beaver, Maple and Crooks roads. Upon reopening, both directions of Livernois Road will have one lane open in each direction under I-75.

Crews will demolish the southbound I-75 bridge over Long Lake Road, closing Long Lake Road in both directions from 9 a.m. May 8 to 5 p.m. May 10. Upon reopening, Long Lake Road will have one lane open in each direction under I-75. 

Suggested detours are Livernois, Big Beaver and Crooks roads. 

Currently, both directions of I-75 traffic, separated by a temporary concrete barrier, are maintained on the newly constructed northbound side of the freeway. This will allow for the southbound lanes and bridges to be reconstructed this year. This configuration is expected to remain in place until late November. 

When completed, the $224 million project, the second phase of the I-75 modernization project, will reconstruct 8 miles of pavement and 18 structures, upgrade drainage and improve aesthetics. It will feature federally approved noise walls and a high-occupancy vehicle lane between Coolidge Highway and 13 Mile Road. 

Final pavement markings for the 8-mile segment through Troy will be finished in 2021.

The $127 million first phase of the project, the addition of one lane to northbound and southbound I-75, covered 3 miles of the freeway, between South Boulevard and Coolidge Highway through Bloomfield Township, Auburn Hills and Troy. That began in August 2016. The project’s first phase of construction also replaced five bridges, reconfigured the interchange at Square Lake Road and made improvements to the Adams Road carpool lot. 

That work was completed in 2017.

Federal funding covers about 80% of the costs. 

That stretch of freeway carries up to 174,000 vehicles per day. 

The anticipated completion for Segment 3, Eight Mile Road to 13 Mile Road,  is fall 2023. This phase will cost $630 million, bringing the overall project cost to $945 million.
