TROY — If being perfect was the main objective Dennis Koch and the Troy High girls basketball team had entering a Jan. 5 home game against North Farmington, the second-year coach admittedly would have been in for a long night.

But Koch is in the business of winning.

And on Jan. 5, business was booming.

“It certainly wasn’t pretty, but we’ll take it,” Koch said with a laugh after a 43-33 victory where neither team was able to establish much of anything at all. “I will say this: I’m very happy with how we played defensively, but that wasn’t the greatest girls basketball game you will ever see.”

Each team went on sets of runs throughout the first half. Troy led 16-10 after the first quarter and 27-18 by halftime. For spurts, it seemed as if the Colts were ready to pull away.

Then it seemed as if the Raiders were mounting a comeback.

Neither, however, found the consistency to do either.

“I thought we competed real hard. We just struggled shooting the ball for some reason,” North Farmington coach Tim Carruthers said. “It was those key shots when we really needed them that just wouldn’t fall. I really think that was the difference.”

Junior Sabrina Cotton was the lone Troy player in double figures, finishing the game with 10 points.

Jasmine Harris led the Raiders, scoring a game-high 12. Kaitlyn Kendall added nine.

Troy improves to 6-1 overall, 4-1 in the Oakland Activities Association Red Division.

North Farmington is now 5-3 and 1-2.
