STERLING HEIGHTS — After just eight seasons, the Warren Woods Tower boys golf program is still in its infancy.

That hasn’t stopped the Titans from developing a winning pedigree, capturing the last three Macomb Area Conference Silver Division titles. At 7-0, with all of their matches being played inside the Silver, Tower is in line for a fourth straight league title.

Since 2010, the Titans have amassed a 33-2 record.

“It’s been really awesome to be a part of a good team that knows how to win, and having teammates who are always there for you,” Tower senior Mike Pagano said.

Those golfers are at the heart of the Titans’ success, according to coach Scott Pemberton, who has led the program since its inception.

Pagano, along with seniors Alex Willis and Michael Patchak, are the leaders of the Tower squad, Pemberton said.

“They work pretty hard and they want to learn. It’s fun that way, in that it gives me a chance to team them,” Pemberton said. “Early on when we started, we didn’t have much. Over the years, we’ve built up a bit of a program. So far, so good.”

Even with the success the program has had, Pemberton still challenges his players on a daily basis. He said he’s enocouraged his six seniors to work on their games in preparation for the 2013 Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 state playoffs. Tower will play in a district tournament, set for May 30 at the Maple Lane Golf Club in Sterling Heights.

“To date, they’ve done well. I’ve certainly asked them to knock a couple of shots off of (their 9-hole scores) and then I think we’ll be very, very competitive in the districts,” Pemberton said.

Willis, a four-year golfer at Tower, said his team is focused on the task at hand. The senior said postseason success is a priority.

“That’s the most important thing right now. Now, they have to take everything they’ve worked on in the last six weeks, put it together and add a couple of extra things, and then we’ll be OK. They just need to know it’s time to step up,” Pemberton said.

The Titans’ next matchup is the MAC Silver Divisional meet, which they’ve won the last two years. The match, hosted by Sterling Heights High, will take place May 23 at Maple Lanes. For tee time information, call (586) 698-4622.
