Romney to speak at Shelby Township town hall

Hot on the heels of his main rival for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will be in Shelby Township at 11 a.m. Feb. 21.
The son of former Michigan Gov. George Romney will speak at a town hall event at Eagle Manufacturing Corp. at 52113 Shelby Parkway.
Space is limited for the event and hopeful attendees are asked to RSVP with Romney’s Michigan Campaign Headquarters at (248) 270-8354 or at teammi@mittromney.com.
Romney, who leads all Republican hopefuls, is looking to further that lead with a win in Michigan for its 30 delegates Feb. 28.
Former Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, who spoke to voters Feb. 17 at the Palazzo Grande in Shelby Township, is just behind Romney in the delegate count.
Santorum’s campaign effort in Michigan looks to build on the success he had in Feb. 7 primary wins in Missouri, Colorado and Minnesota.
Santorum, who also won the Iowa caucus Jan. 3, has won 71 delegates, and Romney has 105 delegates after winning primaries in New Hampshire, Florida, Maine and Nevada.
The Michigan primary takes place the same day as Arizona and its 29 delegates. A candidate needs to win 1,144 to seal his party’s nomination.
