ROCHESTER HILLS — Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson named Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett as one of his “Elite 40 Under 40” winners at Patterson’s State of the County address Feb. 8.

“Over the last few months we sought nominations of young adults under the age of 40 who represent the best of Oakland County,” Patterson said. “We call them the Elite 40 Under 40. We feel they represent where Oakland County is headed tomorrow — charging into the knowledge-based economy, providing strong leadership and engaged in improving the quality of life in our region. These young men and women truly make a statement about the talent that abounds in Oakland County and, as far as I’m concerned, confirm a bright future for our region and our country.”

Patterson said more than 400 nominations for the honors were received by Miyan Media, who coordinated the contest. The three top honors went to Founder and CEO of Brand Camp University Hajj Flemings, General Manager and Co-Owner of Vesco Oil Corp. Lena Epstein Koretzky and Senior Medical Imaging Sales Specialist of Lantheus Medical Imaging Kerrie Binno.

Barnett is 36. His leadership was recognized as a recipient of the Outstanding Michigander of the Year, and he was selected to receive the prestigious John F. Kennedy School of Government Harvard Scholarship in 2010. In 2011, he joined a delegation participating in the Transatlantic Climate Bridge Initiative, Sustainable Planning, Sustainable Cities in Germany and currently chairs the Southeast Michigan Council of Government’s Green Infrastructure Task Force.

“I am honored to be named as one of the inaugural members of the elite 40 class and to be associated with so many other outstanding leaders who represent their industry and communities,” Barnett said in a press release.

“The Elite 40 Under 40 that I just introduced to you could not have picked a better nor more exciting time in which to live and work in Oakland County,” Patterson said. “Oakland County still remains Michigan’s leader in economic development, applied technology, fiscal practices and quality of life.”

All of the winners of Elite 40 Under 40 were honored at the State of the County and are featured on LBrooksPatterson.com. Additionally, all recipients will become members of Patterson’s Executive Club.
