A barricaded gunman situation at Shore Pointe Motor Lodge ended in the early morning hours of Aug. 21 when police discovered the man deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

St. Clair Shores Police and Fire departments were called to the motor lodge at 20000 E. Nine Mile Road at 9 p.m. Aug. 20 for a guest who had indicated he was not feeling well and was possibly having a breakdown.

According to a press release from St. Clair Shores Police, gunshots could be heard coming from the caller’s room as officers approached. Police and paramedics immediately began to evacuate other guests from the building. Everyone was safely evacuated from the area.

Witnesses told police that the man inside the room had been spotted with an AK-47 rifle in his possession earlier in the day, and attempts to contact the guest failed for several hours. The St. Clair Shores Police Emergency Response Team was called to the scene at 1 a.m. and attempted to resolve the situation. Police were able to make entry into the room at 3:15 a.m. That’s where officers found the individual deceased with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police are not releasing any further information at this time, including the identity of the deceased individual.
