ROCHESTER — The Silver Spoon Ristorante Italiano is on the move.

Restaurant officials announced in June that the Silver Spoon would be closing its original location — at 6830 N. Rochester Road in Rochester Hills, near Papa Joe’s — and moving to 543 N. Main St. in downtown Rochester, into the building that once housed Mama Mia restaurant.

“We decided to relocate because that spot is an amazing space for our ristorante. We just love it,” manager and owner Rito Lisi said in an email.

Although Lisi did not have an exact moving date at press time, he said the current location would remain open until the move.

John Gaber, of Williams, Williams, Rattner & Plunkett P.C., which represents the restaurant, said it has operated in its Rochester Hills location for seven years.

“They’ve developed a great customer base, and they are very confident that base is going to follow them to the location of the old Mama Mia restaurant,” he said.

Crews are currently renovating the new space, which will feature a larger kitchen and dining room.

“We are redoing the place from scratch,” Lisi said.

The new 6,000-square-foot restaurant will seat 100 people inside and 40 people on the patio. Lisi said the new space will also include a private room that can be reserved for events or opened up to be part of the restaurant.

“The idea is to be the same — same look, same décor, same people, same concept — just in a new location,” he said.

Lisi said the Silver Spoon embraces the culture and feel of dining in Italy, with a focus and detail on tradition. The menu features traditional Italian fare, such as homemade “gnocchi alla bava” — homemade potato dumplings in a four-cheese sauce — and “saltimbocca alla romana” — veal scallopini with prosciutto, sage and white wine.

On July 23, the Rochester City Council unanimously approved a recommendation to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission to transfer the restaurant’s liquor license to the new location.

“We are very confident that you are going to bring all your customers and more to the city of Rochester, so thank you for coming,” Mayor Pro Tem Kim Russell said during the meeting.

The Silver Spoon Ristorante will be open 4:30-11 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays when it opens at its new address, 543 N. Main St. in downtown Rochester.
