POAM is an organization that provides labor-related services for law enforcement officers. It is Michigan’s largest police labor union. This was the first time that Shelide had been nominated for this award.

FERNDALE — Police officers from five cities helped arrest a man who allegedly committed armed robbery at a local 7-Eleven at approximately 2:20 a.m. May 21. Police arrested 24-year-old John Briggs, of Ferndale, after he allegedly pulled a gun on a cashier at 7-Eleven, 1040 W. Nine Mile Road, and stole more than $150 and Juul pods for e-cigarettes.

Dan Brown, of the Bloomfield Township Police Department, said the man was walking in the parking lot of Costco, 2343 S.
