FERNDALE — The Ferndale Police Department is investigating a shots fired incident at a home that was hosting a party.

Police responded to the scene on Hilton Road, north of Eight Mile Road, at 1:07 a.m. Jan. 4. The home at which the shots were fired was being used as an Airbnb rental.

Police Community Engagement Officer Jill Mahlmeister said a woman was having a birthday party with 10-15 people at the home when police received multiple 911 calls of shots fired.

“She reported that somebody — we don’t have a suspect, we don’t know if they were on foot or in a vehicle — fired three to four rounds in the Airbnb, but no one was struck,” Mahlmeister said.

She said officers found two of the bullets inside the home. Police also stated that they had yet to speak to the woman who was hosting the party at the home.

“When (the gunshots happened) and the cops came, everybody immediately left the area,” she said. “It’s still unclear what the motive was or who the intended target is, but we’re still working on that.”

The case remains under investigation by Ferndale police.
