EASTPOINTE — A Detroit man is facing assault and larceny charges after a confrontation with an Eastpointe woman at her home.

The incident took place Aug. 2 at a home on Virginia Avenue, near Gratiot Avenue and Nine Mile Road. The suspect was identified by police as Landis Tyrone Blocker. Police said that a confrontation arose between Blocker and the woman after she hired him to do some work for her.

“The victim stated that Landis Tyrone Blocker, of Detroit, was at her home to perform a variety of work. Instead of working, he elected to argue,” the Eastpointe Department of Public Safety stated on its Facebook page. “As a result of this, he was asked to leave. Moments later, he returned and assaulted the victim in her yard. Blocker then entered the home and allegedly took currency from a purse, and a ring. The victim’s dog became aggressive in order to protect her. Blocker did not like this, so he elected to punch the dog in his face several times. Blocker then allegedly threw the victim down again as she rose.”

Police said they arrested Blocker a few blocks away from the site of the assault and took him into custody without incident. Police added that both the woman and the dog are well.

Blocker was charged in 38th District Court with one count of larceny in a building, one count of assault and battery, and one count of larceny — less than $200. His bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety. His next court date is a probable cause conference scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17.

Blocker had not retained or been appointed an attorney prior to publication.
