PLEASANT RIDGE — In the fall, the Pleasant Ridge City Commission met to discuss a petition to add lighting to the dog park at Gainsboro Park.

OAKLAND COUNTY — The Oakland County Parks and Recreation Department is asking residents to make their voices heard and share what they would like to see from their local parks and community activities.

BIRMINGHAM — Throughout the last couple of decades, the parks and recreation master plan has listed certain sites as “mini-parks,” but it was brought to city officials’ attention that no formal designation of these sites has ever been made by the City Commission.

OAKLAND COUNTY — City officials are celebrating a commitment by Oakland County to invest heavily in municipal parks and recreation, with about $20 million split across destinations such as Ambassador Park in Madison Heights and portions of Beech Woods Park in Southfield.

STERLING HEIGHTS — There’s a new place to run along the Red Run Drain in Sterling Heights.

MADISON HEIGHTS — The Red Oaks Nature Center at Suarez Friendship Woods is one of the city’s best-kept secrets — an oasis of greenery in the heart of Madison Heights, hidden away from the roads, where visitors can enjoy peace and quiet on woodland trails.

ROYAL OAK — The Royal Oak City Commission approved a proposal to place an ice rink downtown.

GROSSE POINTE FARMS — New landscaping will accompany new playground equipment at Pier Park in Grosse Pointe Farms.

PLEASANT RIDGE — Pleasant Ridge is looking into installing lights at its dog park at Gainsboro Park.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Held on Sept. 28, Oct. 12 and Oct. 26, the Prince Drewry Park Market Days bring together local entrepreneurs and artisans to sell their goods within the community.

GROSSE POINTE WOODS — Vandals who enjoy wreaking havoc in Ghesquiere Park in Grosse Pointe Woods may need to take their destructive tendencies elsewhere.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP — The Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center is adding a new youth archery range with the help of a donation from the Jo Burgess family.

OAKLAND COUNTY — Oakland County Parks and Recreation is developing plans to possibly convert the Red Oaks Golf Course into a walkable park with open space, trails and other amenities.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS — The Bloomfield Hills Schools Johnson Nature Center and Sylvan Table are partnering for a fundraising event to raise money for the Johnson Nature Center 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.

TROY — The city of Troy recently purchased three parcels of land adjacent to Sylvan Glen Lake Park, on Rochester Road, which will be added to the park land.

BERKLEY — The Berkley City Council approved the purchase of play equipment and other features for two of its parks at a recent meeting.

BIRMINGHAM — While Adams Park is still a work in progress, the Birmingham Parks and Recreation Board is able to proudly share the newest construction updates.

TROY — Troy residents and city officials gathered at Jaycee Park July 27 to cut the ribbon on the third phase of the city’s Troy Trail project.

OAKLAND TOWNSHIP — Trail users now have a new place to park to access the northern end of the Paint Creek Trail.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS — Adults are invited to grab some friends and take to the trails for a night of adventure.
